About the Author
John Polkinghorne is past President and now Fellow of Queens' College Cambridge. Former Professor of Mathematical Physics at Cambridge University, he is a priest and Canon Theologian of Liverpool Cathedral. He won the Templeton Prize for Science and Religion in 2002, and is the author of many books, including Quantum Physics and Theology, his autobiography, From Physicist to Priest, and Theology in the Context of Science, all published by SPCK. Thomas J Oord is Professor of Theology and Philosophy at Northwest Nazerene University, and author of several books.

As a scientist and believer I have had many of the thoughts held vaguely in my mind, that are so very well expostulated here. This book is the perfect way to read of this wonderful synthesis of thought of science and religion. The full books by Polkinghorne tend to be less accessible, I believe, because as a super high level mathematician and theoretical physicist he is able to hold so many complex abstract thoughts in his mind, that when he rights them out they are too dense to keep track off. This redaction of key parts of his writing, mostly chosen for redaction by Polkinghorne himself, let's one get to enjoy the amazing insights and be guided into wonderful new opportunities into how one thinks and lives in one's Christian faith in the real world. With no compromise on who the resurrected Jesus really is, I might add (the downside I found with Peacocke)

As some one with a background in both the (health) sciences and theology the opportunity to read this book and icon of mine was great.

This text shows that there is no dicotomy between the Sciences and Religion as commonly cited by the millitant fundamentalist athests.

About the Author

Abdelmonam Kouka

Abdelmonam Kouka is a Tunisian computer engineer. He got his engineering diploma in computer science in 2007 from one of the best engineering schools in Tunisia (ENSI), After this he got a master's degree in Information Security from the same school (ENSI) in 2009 and a master's degree in free and open source software from ISI/UVT in 2011. Starting from 2012 and until writing this book, he was a student at master level in Innovation Management (DICAMP.eu project).

He is not only a nonstop student; in fact, after getting his engineering degree in 2007, and in parallel to his masters marathon, he started working as a software developer in HR Access, and then a Zimbra consultant in another company. After that he came back to development with Alcatel-Lucent as a Java/JEE developer to finish with Alcatel-Lucent as an IP/MPLS Expert. He left Alcatel-Lucent in December 2012 to launch in partnership with his friend Ayed Akrout, their own startup TAC-TIC (www.tac-tic.net), which provides ICT services such as software development, open source consulting, and IP/MPLS engineering and support.

Starting with his engineering study period and during all his professional experience, he was an open source activist, a member/co-founder of Ubuntu-tn community, Sabily community, and APOS association; he was also a member of Linux Arabic Community, Arabeyes, CULLT, DFSA, and a lot of other open source clubs and associations and initiatives.

What a waste of money.

So, this was a waste of money. The only thing it is good for, is leaving it on my desk at work, to show management that I'm really trying to learn this. Besides that, don't waste your money. I was hoping for a description of how Zimbra works. Instead, it is just a very terse description of how to install Zimbra. Reading the FREE install manual give more information.

So, it will become a nice looking paper weight on my desk, for now. Then, in three years, when I am going though my stacks of techy books, I'll see this book and wonder why I bought the fool thing.

Highly recommend, with a caveat

To be clear, the book is beautiful to behold and well written, much more than just a coffee table 'art' book...but I found that by
including in it's scope both pulp art (Doc Savage was only ever marginally a comic character) and paperback books, it skimped in areas more directly related to comics. We all love Norman Saunders, but his work is exhaustively dealt with elsewhere...While I was happy to see a chapter devoted to Western publishing covers, I felt they really gave short shrift to what really was some of the most iconic work in the genre of painted comics (ie Turok, Boris Karloff, Twilight Zone, Doctor Spektor, Magnus)...could have a whole chapter just devoted to Mo Gollub's Tarzan covers! And what about horror? There was more than just Warren back in the day! Skywald and Eerie Publications featured some astonishing and lurid painted cover art in the 70s, deserved at least a mention. There is a lot of modern stuff in here, and I know the subject matter is so deep that it would be tough to meet the expectations of all fans, but to me the 'Golden Age' of painted comic cover art (60s and 70s) didn't get the coverage I was hoping for...nonetheless, a lovely book, I'm glad I bought it...

Not well researched

A missed opportunity.

As posted by the previous reviewer, this book doesn't spread it's subject matter equally. Also the research is poor.

I paged through the book and while it does have some great work represented, it skips important contributions and doesn't even get the art represented right. I was surprised (and delighted) to see Bama's work represented but there was a Doc Savage cover that is NOT Bama's but is credited to him. At that point I closed the book and put it back on the shelf. More work needs to be done to make this a must by.

Great set of patterns (8) for small blankies that could easily be enlarged to full-size baby blankets, lap robes, or afghans. Suitable for beginning knitters with a couple of more challenging patterns included. Patterns all use worsted weight yarn (generic weights and yardages are given rather than specific brands) and could be knit with any yarn from big box acrylics to washable wools or blends to luxury yarns.
