Good but don't use as ONLY source of CK prep

Hey everyone! I found it easy to read and very helpful specially for Internal Medicine. My advice for all of you having 8 weeks for reviewing is to go over Kaplan Lecture Notes, supplement with Master the boards 2 CK strongly for Internal Medicine, then use Master the boards 3 for all other areas of specialty; Peds, OBGYN, Surgery ect and go back to First Aid for STEP 1, yes First aid for step 1 ONLY for Bio-statistics, Ethics and such topics.

In general Master the boards Step 2CK is a great addition to your overall weapons in getting ready for Step 2 CK but don't rely on it solely. Also be aware that you MUST get a question bank (my choice, USMLE world) and DO ALL THE QUESTIONS, timed, random and closer to the big day, do at least 2 simulated full length tests taking the breaks as if you were in the real exam. Believe me, endurance and physical training is also a part of the prep. Also try to do at least 2-3 NBME Tests.

So, get your study books together and BEGIN! Don't forget DO ALL THE QUESTION BANK !!! TIMED, RANDOM, TAKE NOTES OF WHAT YOU NEED TO REVIEW AND NAIL IT !!!

Dubious reviews!!

In 24 hours there have been 5 new 5 star reviews by people that have reviewed nothing else. This has made me really doubt this product and the integrity of Dr. Fischer. It looks easy to read on first glance but I noticed fairly quickly that there are a lot of things missing (like for starters, all of biostats). I just randomly wanted to look up DVT/PE prophylaxis in pregnancy (a common ob topic) to see if it would be different than non-pregnant (as in DO NOT USE WARFARIN)... and it does not make any mention of this. Bottom line, be vary careful in solely relying on this book and the reviews on amazon for it.

Agree with previous reviews questioning integrity of the 5 stars, this is a useless book

Like all things on amazon, i buy items based on reviews. I was surprised this book had better reviews than First Aid, as I lived by first aid for Step 1 and its many other clerkship-specific books. Regardless, I figured it was worth a shot.

This book is useless because it serves no purpose for step2 studying. It's lacking in all areas. It's brevity on topics makes me question what they were thinking when it was composed. I often couldn't find supplemental info on drugs, syndromes and diseases i found difficult on uworld. On top of that, a lot of the information it did have was extremely obvious or just plain silly. For ex, a box on one page said, in response to uterine atony, "a = without, tony = tone." Wow! Or, may favorite, "uterine rupture means there's a whole in the uterus." OH my, now it makes sense! Thanks for clarifying. It also lacks useful memorization tools that First Aid offers.

Overall, I'm very disappointed with this book. I stopped using it after a few weeks. Based on my scores in school, I can unequivocally say this book will not help you master anything.

One of the Most Profound Books You'll Ever Read About Forgiveness

Although this is a book primarily about forgiving our parents, its lessons are for anyone who has been wounded deeply by the very people who were supposed to love and protect us the most. Fields goes far beyond the dry duty and Scriptural "shoulds" of forgiveness. Instead, she tells her story like a love song, peeling back the layers of the process to expose the beauty of forgiveness for the sake of the one who extends it. Fields tells the story of her and her siblings' forgiveness of a father who was cold, emotionally absent, and unrepentant of the deep damage he inflicted on his children. She walks us through their process of not only letting go of the injustices done them, to then learning to pour out Christ-like love on a man who, to the end, never acknowledged his need to be forgiven. The end result is a picture of the way God loves us: lavishly, undeservedly, faithfully.

A beautiful look at why we forgive anyone who doesn't deserve--or necessarily even want--to be forgiven.

For any of us who have had difficult relationships with our parents

Forgiving Our Fathers and Mothers arrived in my mailbox the day I arrived at an impasse with one of my parents. It's essentially the same roadblock I've been running into for my entire adult life. I was primed to read this and finished it in three days. Not only is Leyland Fields a great writer, she has tremendous integrity on topic. Raised by a father who struggled with mental illness and was mostly absent, Leyland Fields does not exhort her readers to forgive from a detached, academic perspective. She's been there and thankfully done that which allows her to empathize with those of us who have been hurt or disappointed by our parents. If you have struggled to let go of bitterness, anger, or unforgiveness with one or both of your parents, you will be encouraged and challenged by this offering. (And if you have never been hurt by your parents but minister to those who have been, trust me, you won't be skipping pages.) The book is grounded in Scripture and fleshed out by real life experiences. The study questions at the end of each chapter are also insightful and worth working through. WARNING-I would not advise reading this in public spaces unless you don't mind crying in front of total strangers. I started it while on the elliptical at the gym and had to put it down. It's an incredibly moving book.

It's a good time to shine a little more light on those dark memories

Even though this is a very good book about forgiveness, it is also a book about how one wants to finish their relationship story with (difficult) parent. Reading this book brings up hurtful memories of my childhood with a mean father. Even though I believe I have done a good job of applying the Biblical forgiveness principles that are presented in the book, the book went on to make me ponder how I want story between my father and I to end. (My father does not have a computer or go on the internet, so he should never see this.)

I appreciated how the author acknowledged that an abusive parent may feel no obligation to ever admit their bad parenting, ever ask for forgiveness, or even want to begin a new loving relationship with their child even as they come to the end of their life. The book also made me open my eyes to the hurts that my two brothers experienced with the same mean parent and could still use help healing.

This book would serve well in a study group. Initially I read through the book academically, and it wasn’t until I discussed several of the study questions with a friend that I could see how to begin to apply some of the Biblical principles to my life.

I now realize my significant but limited influence over how my father could possibly reconcile his bad behavior toward me as my parent. But looking forward, I am determined to reconcile any parenting rifts in my relationships with my own adult sons. Surely there are examples of my bad behavior as a mother that I need to ask their forgiveness for. I want to wipe that slate clean so that they can have as good a relationship with me as possible and have those parental forgiveness issues resolved.

Great gift to explore new adventures with Lego Friends

Build Your Own Adventure LEGO Friends is a book with bricks that will inspire kids to build, play, and learn all about the fascinating world of LEGO® Friends. It combines fan built inspirational ideas for building story starters. Your child will get inspired to build with creative ideas, then play out her own adventures using her own LEGO collection. The book comes with 77 bricks to build one exclusive model that appears throughout the book.

The book will begin by presenting Liza and her touring car. The child will have the possibility to build the car using the bricks included in this set and following the instructions found in the book. Once this is done, the child can now begin the adventures in the book. Five adventures can be taken with this book: Picnic at the park, the horse show, Heartlake City carnival, adventure weekend, and surprise party. Obviously each adventure will require the child to use her stack of Lego bricks in order to be able to build what is require for the adventure.

I find the instructions clear to follow and easy to do. I am impressed on how easy it is to replicate common day things like sandwiches as well as more complicated things like the swan boat. I can’t believe how detailed the campsite facilities are – even a toilet is included. To think that all these things can be build using regular bricks that you might have already!It is incredible what can be done with bricks and a bit of imagination…

This book is a great addition to our extensive LEGO collection. The model included is a great bonus, but the real value lies in the many ideas offered that make use of the bricks we've collected from the Friends line. It has helped us to expand our LEGO world using sets we already have. The 8 year old aspiring Master Builder is especially fond of the "builder vocabulary" section.

What lies beneath the surface

These are nine vignettes, barely sketches, of what goes on inside the souls of apparently perfectly normal people. More: they are normal, as most of us are, but they, like us, hide inside longings and surprising reactions to everydat situations. Most characters are Newyorkers, and most of them are also young, sometimes very young, people. Salinger, as showed in "Catcher in the Rhye" and in "Franny and Zooey", has a great eye for the attitudes, perceptions and preoccupations of kids and teenagers, as well as a great ear for the way they really speak. Amazingly, most of the time Salinger's kids sound like contemporary ones.

In my opinion, the best four tales were these: "A Perfect Day for Bananafish", in which Seymour Glass, older brother to Franny and Zooey, meets his destiny after a strange but tender and amusing talk with a little girl on the beach. "For Esme, with Love and Squalor", tells the amazing conversation between a young British girl and a soldier fighting in WWII. She is one of the most interesting young characters in Salinger's work, and the end is poignant and painful, but endearing. "De Daumier-Smith's Blue Period" is a wonderful satire of painters' autobiographies, a tale in a farsical tone. And "Teddy" is another small masterpiece about a young boy travelling with his parents on a cruise. This boy is a lecturer on reencarnation, and his talk with an older but still young guy is one of the most memorable pieces in modern literature.

The rest are also good, but didn't strike me as much as the others. In "Uncle Wiggily in Connecticut" we see the emotional collapse of a young mother, as she talks and drinks the evening away with a friend from college, with the interesting appearance of her daughter, another weird but still normal Salingerian character. "Down at the Dinghy" is a short snap of another of the Glass girls talking with her shy but brave little son. "Just Before the War with the Eskimos" is another farce, a fight between two spoiled brats of Newyorker girls, and then how one of them discovers love, or at least romantic interest, in an unlikely guy. "The Laughing Man" is the most enigmatic of these tales. Finally, "Pretty Mouth and Green my Eyes" is just neurotic.

Christianism in its most unsuspected manifestations, the pains, agonies and glory of being a child or a teenager, people from the exotic New York, hidden longings and passions, all of this and more is the subject of one of last century's most penetrating and enigmatic writers. I wonder what he has been up to these last years.

Blue Period

"De Daumier-Smith's Blue Period" is one of the nine stories in this collection. In the story Daumier-Smith has an enlightening experience and afterwards makes the statement "Everybody is a nun". I originaly thought this "Everybody is a nun" was the same type of statement we find in F&Z and Teddy about everyone being holy. I think he is saying this and more. Salinger was also saying that everyone is a unique holy person in their cloister or behind their own wall. When the shop girl in the display window starts to fall Daumier-Smith reaches out to stop her fall and his fingers hit the glass. He also realizes that she doesn't share his mind, thats why she is startled by his presence, she has a mind and life seperate from his and doesn't really know why he should be standing there looking at her. He realizes the same thing about the nun. She knows nothing of his ideas and dreams about her, she is living her own life unaware of him. In part this is a deliverance from a creeping solipsism for Daumier-Smith. The wall theme is present in "For Esme". What does one wall say to the other? Meetcha at the corner. without this meeting at the corner we are either isolated behind our own wall or just solipsisticaly assume that anothers experience is the same behind their wall as our own. I think Daumier-Smith had an experience of direct seeing of the reality of other selves, their situations and feelings, an empathic moment. He has a moment of pure empathy with the shop girl in the window and this empathy changes him, bringing him out of his self involved world and letting him see others as they are. We are never told exactly what he experiences ,except his vision of the sun hurtling towards the bridge of his nose. After the experience he becomes much more accepting of himself and others, even his hopeless art students who he had formerly snobbishly judged although accurately critiqued. There are allusions in this short story to Rilke, Rodan, Picasso, and of course the French artist Honore Daumier. This is one of Salinger's funniest stories.

Esme's compassion

The story "For Esme with Love and Squalor" is one of the nine stories in this collection. I remember a critic who wrote that "Esme", the story, was a gloss on the Dostoevski quote Sergeant X writes down. I bought into this at first. With closer reading I find I disagree with this. The quote Sergeant X writes is a way of reaching out and communicating to the Nazi lady,(Salinger actually married a Nazi lady he had arrested after the war, divorce soon followed.), and combating her idea that life is hell with the idea from Dostoevski that hell is the suffering of being unable to love. This latter idea, no matter how true, will not save the Nazi lady. For one thing she will never read it. Also ideas do not save people. Sergeant X realizes this failed attempt when he looks down and the quote is illegible and his own misery is very mich intact. When he reads the letter from Esme, who we remember has been training herself to be more compassionate, this person to person compassion is redemptive for him. Esme has trained herself to surmount her own wall long enough to meet others at the corner where compassion is possible. In the christian story, for example, it is not ideas or doctrine that save people. It takes a person to save a person, as Esme in a very real way saves Sergeant X with her compassion. Salinger participated in five of the major campaigns in WW2 Europe. This story gives you a glimpse of the toll that can take on a man. Thankyou to Salinger and all the others who fought for their country during the war.

Military short story

This is a short story about a marine flight instructor and a chemistry professor who had relationship over a decade ago and are reunited. She was devastated when he left, but her father was his commanding officer and basically ordered him to leave her alone or his career would be over before it started. She moved back to Pensacola not knowing he lived there, in order to help her father through his last months of life. After he died, she got a position at the local college. When "Duff" and Kirsten see each other at a bar, all the feelings come back. But then life hands "Duff" a surprise that just might blow it.

I feel that this story should have been called a woman of few words because the female protagonist seemed to use sex to express her emotions and the man was the one doing the talking, or asking her to talk. I also felt that the story ended abruptly. Things had been discussed, and the characters had agreed to try a relationship, then end. Lots of time had been spent discussing their past, but no time was given to how it worked out. Many details were left unanswered or not addressed. The story was ok, but the characters didn't feel fully formed. There wasn't much of a plot, but there was a lot of sex. The story was ok, the bones are there, but I would have liked to see things more fleshed out.

However, there's always one who got away that she just can't seem to forget and wonders what had gone wrong between them. Celebrating her success, Kirsten went out on the town with her roommate, determining to enjoy herself and live life a little. So tonight, all bets are off, she will let herself enjoy the male company surrounding her, just no wedding bells and baby blanket.

But as fate would have it, Duff is in town and happens to be at the same bar as Kirsten. Duff, a major and a pilot instructor for the marine, man of a few words but that is because of the depravity he witnessed while being overseas. Duff is no longer the young athlete with an out-going personality; he is now a mature adult, a man who is responsible for many other lives while being airborne.

Duff was the love `em and leave `em, at least that's how Kirsten remembers. But seeing Duff again, would that ignite the amber Kirsten had hidden all these years? Would she be willing to lose her heart one more time to the same man who claimed to have loved her many years ago? Anguish, pain, everything is being hashed out, both Duff and Kirsten will have to make their choices but will it reunite them or torn them apart? This is a good read for all the jarheads of military romance, it is fast-paced but it is a love story that should be awarded to all the men and women in the service. A past, a Marine, and a decision to to be made.

Kirsten has finally gotten what she wanted--a permanent job as a chemistry professor. She was a military brat and long ago grew tired of all the moving around. Now she can stay put. If only there was someone to share it all with. She had someone, a long time ago, who she would give up everything for--that was eleven long years ago.

Duff is a Marine Major as well as flight instructor for the Marine Corps. He never married because there wasn't ever anyone who could steal his heart and make him want more than a couple weeks of sexual release...except one and that was eleven years ago. She was the one, but her father ordered him to leave her be and walk away forever. Yeah, she was the one for him.

Kirsten finally relents to her best friend (and roommate) Suzy to go to the club and celebrate her new job. Kirsten throws caution to the wind and decides tonight to be something she is not, flirtatious and available for sex. She gets up to the bar and, oh my God it's him! He looks good, no, great! She decides to get even with him for leaving her with a broken heart by having revenge sex with him. She will be the one to walk away this time...or will she?
