Chester Dawson has worked as a business journalist and editor at several top media outlets, including BusinessWeek, Dow Jones & Co., The Associated Press and Bloomberg News. After serving as International Finance Editor at BusinessWeek magazine’s headquarters in New York, he entered high finance—first at a Japanese hedge fund and then, most recently, in the institutional asset management unit of a Wall Street bank. Mr. Dawson earned his M.A. in East Asian Studies at Harvard University and a B.A. in history with an economics minor at Ohio University. This is a great manufacturing love story in which Toyota, an automaker clearly in love with its product, decides to go after the U.S. luxury car buyer, a suitor who has repeatedly ignored its advances. To get America's attention, Toyota must first re-invent itself. It must make itself more handsome (through better styling), improve its physique (be faster, stronger and need less maintenance) and prove its financial management skill (by selling great cars for less). Because time is fleeting and the buyer has many other suitors (Mercedes Benz, Jaguar, Nissan, Volvo), Toyota must work fast before its intended lover makes an irrevocable decision and buys someone else's car. Like some other love stories, this is repetitive and suffers from some plain old sloppy editing. But it makes you want to test-drive a Lexus to see what causes such a sensation. We recommend this book to CEOs and sales and marketing executives who dream of producing revolutionary, successful products for the global marketplace. And who would mind getting a little consumer love?

Must read material for the floxed

This book covers the thought processes and emotions of those who have been 'floxed.' The narrative is candid and I did feel it was helpful. This book went a long way in validating how I feel - regarding explaining to friends and family what has happened to me and to that big, scary word all floxed fear: permanent.

While the author states up front that this is a book about healing and not science, I do think a bit of science in the firm of data would be additive. For example, the question of 'how long' symptoms will last is different for everyone but there have been studies noting the mean and range that participants took to recover. Adding these points to the text would help provide some concrete expectations around the norm. This would help illustrate the point that yes, some people recover in a month but that is an unlikely outcome. I would love to see some data added to the text that has some lamens terms explanations added. As the author noted, she herself spent hours reading research and it is not light reading. Having taken the same approach myself, I would have loved to have a resource like this book to highlight some of what is known regarding recovery.

Overall, if you have been floxed, this is must read material. Even if you gain only one new idea that works, or better yet renewed hope, that might be your magic bullet. That alone is worth it.

Extremely Helpful View of Toxicity from Fluoroquinolones

Excellent and very positive ebook! Very easy to read and understand the harmful devastating effects fluoroquinolone antibiotics can have on a person. Even better that it has been created by a fellow foxie who knows first hand the pain and suffering this drug has caused people. I definitely recommend to anyone who is going through this mess or has a loved one currently struggling. I would also love to see physicians read as they are having trouble grasping the adverse effects it can cause their patients. Thank you so much Lisa!

Tim Kasser is Professor of Psychology at Knox College. His publications include The High Price of Materialism (MIT Press, 2002) and many scientific articles and book chapters.
